Brief Summary

Jakson successfully installed and commissioned 600 kW Rooftop Solar PV plant at Lal Bahadaur Shastri International Airport, Varanasi. The project was executed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in partnership with Airports Authority of India (AAI). The scope of work included design, supply, installation & commissioning of rooftop solar PV power plant on build, own & operate basis. A total of 2000 high efficiency, non-reflective PV modules of 300 Wp were used to set up this plant producing over 800 MWh of electricity per annum. About the client

Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, formerly known as Varanasi Airport, is a public airport located at Babatpur, about 26 kms northwest of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. The airport features a single asphalt runway of 9,006 feet in length, with turnarounds on both ends. An integrated terminal serves both domestic and international flights, with a floor-area of 26,500 m². It can process 500 passengers at any given time. The terminal features 16 check-in counters, 4 immigration counters, two aero-bridges and two baggage-claim belts. The waiting area features essential services for the passengers, besides snack stalls, convenience stores, a bookstore and a VIP waiting lounge.

Besides, hangars are extremely large buildings with huge terraces that can be utilized for placing solar panels. Many airports across the world have already begun to use solar energy to produce power for their needs.

Looking at the apparent advantages for solar plants in airports, the Airports Authority of India commissioned the 600 KW at Lal Bahadaur Shastri International Airport solar project. This project is part of an elaborate strategy of AAI to install solar energy plants in the premises of most of the major airports in India.
