Jakson successfully installed 250 KWP rooftop solar power plant at Pragati Maidan Metro Station, New Delhi. This enabled the station to harness solar energy for various applications at the facility. Scope of work included design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning including warranty, operation & maintenance under RESCO model wherein DMRC would be charged on the actual usage of solar power consumed on a monthly basis for a period of 25 years. In addition to cost benefits, the plant is estimated to offset 270,000 kilograms of CO2 per year significantly contributing to environment protection.

About the Client

The Delhi Metro run by DMRC is India's most prominent metro network that started its operations in the year 2002. Delhi Metro is the world's 12th longest metro system in length and 16th largest in ridership. A member of CoMET, the network consists of six colour-coded regular lines with a total length of 231 kilometres (144 mi) serving 173 stations. It operates over 3,000 trips daily catering to more than 2.8 million people in a daily basis.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was certified by the United Nations in 2011 as the first metro rail and rail-based system in the world to get "carbon credits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions" and helping in reducing pollution levels in the city by 630,000 tonnes every year.

Business need

Metro rail transport is becoming a popular means of public transport in India. Metro rail systems are either already running or in different phases of construction in about 11 cities in the country. On one hand such transport systems are rapidly transforming cities but on the other hand the massive infrastructure associated also requires huge amount of electricity.

Delhi Metro has a daily peak power requirement of 150MW, which is likely to go up to 250MW after the third phase becomes operational. In a bid to decrease its carbon footprint and to insulate itself from the electricity price hike, the corporation had planned to install rooftop solar plants in its stations.

Jakson successfully installed 250 KWP rooftop solar power plant at Pragati Maidan Metro Station, New Delhi. Scope of work included design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning including warranty, operation & maintenance under RESCO model wherein DMRC would be charged on the actual usage of solar power consumed on a monthly basis for a period of 25 years. This enabled the station to run all critical systems through solar power. Along with obvious cost benefits, the plant is estimated to offset 270,000 kilograms of CO2 per year significantly contributing to environment protection.
