Power Back up Solution for Gold Plus Glass- Manufacturing Unit

Overview

Gold Plus Glass an Indian company engaged in the manufacture of float glass. It is one of the largest glass manufacturers in the country. The Roorkee plant of Gold Plus Glass with manufacturing unit of capacity 470 MT/Day was looking for reliable power source to ensure its manufacturing facility functioned without any power breakdown that could result in big financial losses.

This project was awarded to Jakson for its technical competence & proven capabilities to execute similar large DG based power plant projects, including one at the same facility earlier which involved 5x1500KVA sets in Phase 1 and 6*1500 KVA in phase 2. The scope of work included complete design engineering of mechanical & electrical work for DG sets.

Jakson successfully completed turnkey job of involving multiple DG installations providing 17000 KVAs power plant to M/s. Gold Plus Glass Ind. Ltd. at Roorkee, Uttarakhand.

Business Need

The need for generators in manufacturing plant is of absolute importance. This plant is fully automated and system driven. This being a process industry, entire facility needs to be provided with 100% emergency power backup generated by prime rated diesel generators.

The new production line installed by Gold Plus needed a reliable power back-up source, for which Jakson was their tried, tested & proven choice. 

Challenge

  1. Placement of 6 nos. phase 2 DG sets was itself a challenge due to space constraint as phase 1 DG sets were already installed at the same premises. So it was manually positioned into the utility building which has had to be done through specialized crane and skilled riggers.
  2. The installation of cooling system with cooling towers and associated piping & valves connected to DG Sets was required to be done.
  3. Supply & installation of HT VCBs, Control & Relay Panels, NIS & NGR Panels, as this involved high voltage levels & its hooking with the existing panels & synchronizing it with grid power.
  4. Electrical works for 11KV system without disturbing the existing electrical system, including HT power cabling, earthing & control cabling systems.
  5. Ventilation system for the entire DG Power Plant Room. 

Solution

As a part of the solution, six Gensets were installed, commissioned & synchronized without disturbing the existing commercial operations of the glass manufacturing unit. The DG sets were housed in a special room with necessary acoustic requirements meeting standards.
