Jakson successfully installed a 200 KW grid connected solar rooftop power plant on 1st March 2017, at Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), Government of India headquarters located at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi. Jakson provided complete turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project under Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) RESCO model. In this model, customers pay only for the power produced and consumed under a mutually agreed Power Purchase Agreement. In addition to turnkey execution, Jakson will provide annual operations and maintenance service for this plant for a period of 25 years. The plant will help MEITY offset 216000 kilograms of carbon emissions per year and also achieve cost savings of INR 8 to 10 lakhs per year.
About the Client
The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MEITY), Govt. of India aims to promote e-Governance for empowering citizens and promote inclusive and sustainable growth of the nation. It is located in Electronics Niketan, New Delhi. The building is an aesthetically designed facility with visitor-friendly functionalities like hi-tech display systems with kiosks for demonstration, state-of-the-art display formats, etc. It also has multiple internet-enabled conference areas, dedicated video conferencing facilities as well as a state-of-the-art projection system in the conference hall.
The client wanted to use a renewable energy source to supplement the energy requirements at its office premises in Electronics Niketan, New Delhi. It had vacant rooftop which could be utilized for installing a rooftop solar power plant. As such, it called for proposals from rooftop solar developers to install a solar plant at its premises under the RESCO model.
Jakson was chosen as the preferred partner for this project because of its past experience in installing rooftop solar plants at prestigious government buildings across Delhi and landmarks like the Rashtrapati Bhawan (President’s Estate). Also, Jakson with a portfolio of more than 70 MW solar rooftop installations had the requisite technical expertise to commission a plant at competitive costs that could deliver lowest per unit cost of power to be borne by the client.
The 200 KW solar plant is powered by 669 high efficiency solar PV modules of 310 watt each. With its in-house manufacturing capabilities and engineering expertise, Jakson was able to execute this project in a short span of just 60 days - from the date of receiving the LOI. The plant has the capacity to generate up to 300,000 units of electricity every year that can power various electrical systems in the building. Any additional power generated is supplied to the grid through net metering facility. Apart from electricity cost savings of INR 8 to 10 lakhs per year, the plant will also help offset about 216000 kilograms of carbon emissions per year.
