Jakson’s Rooftop Solar Solutions powers India’s Premier Convention Centre

Overview

Jakson successfully installed and commissioned a 160 KW grid connected solar rooftop power plant at Vigyan Bhavan, a Government of India convention centre, situated in New Delhi, India. Jakson provided turnkey solar EPC services for this plant that included design, engineering, supply, erection, construction, testing & commissioning, and related civil work. Commissioned under Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) RESCO model, Jakson also provides for annual operations and maintenance service of the plant for a period of 25 years. Annually, the plant will help offset about 200 tons of carbon emissions in addition to electricity cost savings of INR 6 to 8 lakhs.

Client

Vigyan Bhavan is a premier convention centre of Government of India in New Delhi. Built in 1956, the centre only holds National-level functions and conferences. The facility houses several state-of-the-art conference halls, meeting rooms and business centres, with the largest among them having a seating capacity of over 1200 delegates. The building also has a VIP Lounge, an office block and studio facilities. The Vigyan Bhavan complex has another adjacent building called the Vigyan Bhavan Annexe, which houses the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) of Government of India.

Business Need

The client wanted to use a renewable energy source to supplement the energy requirements for its facilities in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. It had vacant rooftop which could be utilized for installing a rooftop solar power plant. As such, it called for proposals from rooftop solar developers to install a solar plant at its premises under the RESCO model.

Solution

Jakson with its extensive experience in executing several high profile solar rooftop projects, like Rashtrapati Bhawan (President’s Estate) in New Delhi, was selected as the preferred partner to execute the project. Moreover, Jakson also possessed the technical expertise and in-house manufacturing capabilities to offer a significant per unit cost advantage to the client.

A total of around 540 highly efficient polycrystalline solar PV module of 300 Wp rating was installed in the plant along with all other requisite items of a solar rooftop installation. The plant is divided into two rooftops with 100 KW on top of Vigyan Bhawan and 60 KW at the rooftop of Vigyan Bhavan Annexe. The combined power generation output of the plant is approximately 2.4 lakh units per year, to be mainly used for powering various electrical systems in the facility. Any additional power generated is supplied to the grid through net metering facility. Commissioned under Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) RESCO model, Jakson also provides for annual operations and maintenance service of the plant for a period of 25 years. Apart from electricity cost savings of INR 6 to 8 lakhs per year, the plant will also help offset about 200 tons of carbon emissions per year.
