Overview

Jakson has successfully executed a 1 MW grid-tied solar power plant at Nizamuddin Bridge on river Yamuna in New Delhi. Nizamuddin bridge is a set of 4 bridges and are part of the NH-24 widening project (Delhi-Meerut Expressway) inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on December 31, 2015. Scope of work for the project included complete design, engineering, supply, erection, testing & commissioning of the plant on turnkey basis. All associated civil work required for installation of module mounting structures and cables were also a part of project scope.

Project Highlights

  • Plant capacity: 1 MW
  • Plant type: Grid tied
  • Number of PV modules installed: 3200
  • PV module type used: Polycrystalline
  • PV module power rating: 325 Wp
  • Annual generation capacity: 1500000 KWh approx.
  • Annual carbon emissions offset: 1300 tons approx.

Client

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an autonomous agency of the Government of India, responsible for the development, maintenance and management of National Highways of over 90000 km in length. It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways created through the promulgation of the National Highways Authority of India Act, 1988. The NHAI is also responsible of the toll collection on several highways as well.

Business Need

The solar plant falls under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) beautification work on the 1.5 km stretch between Nizamuddin Bridge and Commonwealth Sports Village flyover. NHAI wanted to build a solar plant to showcase its intent of adoption of renewable energy for lighting requirements of the highway as well as supply of surplus green energy to the grid. The project also displays the potential for installation of solar power plants on highways as a viable and replicable option.

Solution

Our engineering team developed comprehensive design for this one-of-a-kind installation with requisite approvals from BSES for Net-metering & NHAI for layout & support structures stability.

Showcasing its innovative engineering and design capabilities, Jakson successfully integrated solar panels on the tier of the bridges, without compromising the structural integrity and aesthetics of the site. Apart from the bridge itself, the plant has been extended on both sides of the road up to a distance of 400 meters. Over 3200 high efficiency modules of 325Wp each has been used in the project, cumulatively producing over 1 MW of green electricity. The electricity generated will be supplied to the grid and will also be used for illumination of the bridge.
