Jakson successfully installed a 508 kWp solar power plant at President’s Secretariat, Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi. The scope of work for this project included design, supply, testing, installation, commissioning and operation & maintenance for 5 years. The plant is grid connected with an integrated net metering facility, complying with Delhi Electricity Regulation Commission’s regulations. The entire project of 508 kWp was installed in rooftops of 5 different buildings within the President’s Estate, in various sizes as per availability of space. Innovative ballast design was used to mount the modules on the concrete rooftops. This eliminated the need for penetrating the concrete roofs, while offering the same strength and longevity. The project was executed through REC Power Distribution Company Limited (RECPDCL), an Empanelled Government Agency under Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of India.
About the Client
The Rashtrapati Bhawan is the official residence and office of the President of India, located at the Western end of Rajpath in New Delhi, India. The mansion is a 340-room building is housed within the 320 acre President’s Estate that additionally includes huge presidential gardens (Mughal Gardens), staff residences, stables, other offices and utilities. In terms of area, it is one of the largest residences of a head of state in the world.
The Presidents Estate houses several heritage buildings, including the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Installing solar panels on the rooftop of such buildings is a challenging proposition, especially considering age and importance of the landmarks. The client wanted a solution which eliminates the need to penetrate the concrete rooftops thereby ensuring structural integrity and minimal damage to the building; while offering the same strength and longevity as a conventional roof mounting system.

The entire project of 508 kWp was installed in rooftops of 5 different buildings within the President’s Secretariat, in various sizes as per availability of space.
Superior quality, high efficiency poly crystalline solar PV modules were used for the entire installation. Anti-reflective coating on top of the modules helped absorb more light in all weather conditions and also protected the modules from the elements. The array structure was designed to occupy minimum space without sacrificing the output from the modules.
Innovative ballast design was used to mount the modules on the concrete rooftops. This eliminated the need for penetrating the concrete roofs with only light chipping of RCC roof slab up to 50mm. The structure is both robust and light weight at the same time. It is capable of withstanding wind speed of up to 200kmph and the average dead load distribution on the rooftop was less than 60kg/m2.
Jakson provided end to end engineering solution for the project and successfully commissioned the project in record time. While fulfilling all parameters as per MNRE regulations, net metering facility installed as per Delhi Electricity Regulation Commission’s regulations.
