Brief Summary

Jakson Group successfully commissioned a 1 MW rooftop solar power plant at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana. Jakson provided complete turnkey EPC services for this project that involved supply, erection, testing, commissioning including warranty, operations and maintenance. This large scale rooftop solar plant comprises two plants of 500 KW each, with a total of 3302 solar panels of 310 Wp installed.

The power generated in the plant will be sold to the University under a 25 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed between both Jakson and the University. The plant will generate approximately 15 lakh units of green electricity every year and will be used by the University for its Internal Power Requirements. Any additional units generated, will be sold to power utilities using net metering facility.

About the client

Maharshi Dayanand University is a university in Rohtak, Haryana, India and named after the saint Dayanand Saraswati. Established in 1976, the objective was to promote inter-disciplinary higher education and research in the fields of environmental, ecological and life. Today, the university offers courses in a number of fields of study at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Besides offering courses on campus & distance mode, it also offers programs through colleges, institutes and centers throughout the region. The university shares a campus with IIM Rohtak.

Business need

With an aim to generate green electricity and make best use of its available vacant rooftop infrastructure, Maharshi Dayanand University wanted to install a 1 MW solar rooftop power plant in its campus.

Modern day educational institutions with state-of-the-art modern infrastructure require significant power to manage their facilities. With ever increasing electricity costs, captive solar rooftop power plants can be an ideal solution to save on electricity costs.

Most colleges and institutions have large campuses with enough rooftop space which are ideal for rooftop solar power plants and can enable them to generate their own electricity through solar power. When combined with Net Metering facility, these rooftop solar plants can result in substantial savings in electricity costs.

Moreover, educational institutions play a vital role in socio-economic transformation of the country, not only in creating awareness about solar energy, but also by utilising rooftop solar power to demonstrate that they are already part of the future.

Solution
